NFPA 34: Standard for Dipping, Coating, and Printing Processes Using Flammable or Combustible Liquids
NFPA 34: 使用易燃或可燃液体进行浸渍或涂膜工艺标准

1.1 Scope.
1.1.1 This standard shall apply to processes in which articles or materials are passed through tanks, vats, containers, or process equipment that contain flammable or combustible liquids, including but not limited to dipping, roll coating, flow coating, curtain coating, and cleaning.
1.1.2 This standard shall also apply to dipping and coating processes that use water-borne, water-based, and water-reducible materials that contain flammable or combustible liquids or that produce combustible deposits or residues.
1.1.3 This standard shall not apply to dipping and coating processes that use only noncombustible liquids.
1.1.4 This standard shall not apply to dipping and coating processes that use a liquid that does not have a fire point when tested in accordance with ASTM D 92, Standard Test Method for Flash and Fire Points by Cleveland Open Cup, up to the boiling point of the liquid or up to a temperature at which the sample being tested shows an obvious physical change.
1.1.5 This standard shall not apply to electrostatic fluidized bed powder application. (See Section 15.13 of NFPA 33, Standard for Spray Application Using Flammable or Combustible Materials.)

Promote industrial fire safety with the 2011 NFPA 34: Standard for Dipping, Coating, and Printing Processes Using Flammable or Combustible Liquids.
NFPA 34 addresses dipping, roll coating, flow coating, printing, and similar processes using flammable or combustible liquids. Parallel to the requirements in NFPA 33 for spray application, this document provides rules for:
·   Proper location, design, and construction of dipping and coating equipment
·   Installation of electrical systems and control of ignition sources
·   Ventilation requirements
·   Handling of flammable liquids
·   Fire protection
·   Operations and maintenance
Major changes in the 2011 NFPA 34: Standard for Dipping, Coating, and Printing Processes Using Flammable or Combustible Liquids include:
·   Appropriate changes throughout the standard to address basic fire safety for printing operations
·   Amendments to the scope to include vapor degreasing processes and to exempt processes using only Class IIIB combustible liquids
·   A provision to prevent coating of workpieces whose surface temperature exceeds the boiling point of the coating material
·   Provisions to describe the hazardous (classified) areas around printing presses and ink reservoirs
·   A requirement for means to dissipate static electricity from nonconductive substrates
·   Maximum quantities of flammable and combustible liquids revised for consistency with NFPA 30: Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code.
·   Improved requirements for housekeeping and handling of impregnated rags and waste
·   A new requirement for solvent recovery systems to meet appropriate provisions of NFPA 30
Protect lives and work-in-progress. Mitigate fire and explosions hazards with the 2011 NFPA 34. (Softbound, 30 pp., 2011)
